USCIS Updates Filing Procedures for Form I-140

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services today announced a Federal Register notice (FRN) providing updated procedures for submitting a Form I-140, Immigrant Petition for Alien Workers, accompanied by a permanent labor certification, application for Schedule A designation, or national interest waiver (NIW) request.

Indian National Pleads Guilty to Visa Fraud Conspiracy

Defendant staged armed robberies so that "victims" could apply for immigration benefits in exchange for thousands of dollars

BOSTON  U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services provided valuable assistance to the investigation that led to an Indian national, residing in New York, pleading guilty to staging armed robberies in furtherance of a visa fraud conspiracy.  

The U.S. Attorney's Office anounced Rambhai Patel, 37, pleaded guilty to on one count of conspiracy to commit visa fraud. U.S. District Court Judge Myong J. Joun scheduled sentencing for Aug. 20, 2025. In December 2023, Patel was charged along with co-conspirator Balwinder Singh,  also an I

Citizen of India Unlawfully Living in West Virginia Pleads Guilty in Marriage Fraud Scheme

BECKLEY, W.Va.  U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services provided valuable assistance to the investigation that led to a citizen of India pleading guilty in a marriage fraud scheme.

The U.S. Attorney's Office anounced Aakash Prakash Makwana, 29, a citizen of India unlawfully residing in Ronceverte, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft. Makwana admitted that he committed the offense as part of a scheme to marry a U.S. citizen to evade U.S. immigration laws.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Makwana arrived in the U.S. on a J-1 nonimmigrant visa on Nov. 23, 2019. As part of his guilty plea, Makwana admitted that he knew the
